Hospital layouts are prepared on the basis of the safe separation of patient, staff, visitor, A&E, supplies and waste flows. Outpatient clinics, patient rooms, operating theatres, intensive care units, laboratories, imaging departments, sterilisation units, pharmacies and technical service areas are planned in accordance with the healthcare services provided by the facility. Hygiene and infection control, the separation of clean and contaminated areas, accessibility, privacy and evacuation requirements are fundamental elements of the design.
